Age Spots - What is it?

Pigments on the body that is caused due to over exposure to sunlight are called liver spots or age spots.
Sometimes also referred to as solar lentigo, these are most common on the hands, but also known to occur in other parts of the body.
Inspite of their name, they have no connection with our liver and causes no harm to the organ. Any part of our body exposed to sun rays or those who have sensitive skin and tan easily will see signs of these age spots.
Lentigines are a collection of pigments on the skin's surface and usually appears in people over the age of 50, but today due to repeated use of harmful chemicals, it occurs earlier as well. In most cases, they disappear with time, but there are some that could become cancerous, and so if the spots persist, it is necessary to check with your doctor.
For many, these spots are a black mark on their beauty and go through laser or other treatments to have them removed.
