Chinese Medicine from Bei Mu

Bei Mu

Bei mu is commonly grown in China, the Himalayas, and some other Asian countries. In China, it commonly grows in the provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, Xizang, and Yunan.
Bei Mu is a mild steady plant that can be seen mostly in the mountain slopes over the sub-alpine meadows, stony areas, moist hillsides, or just out in the open.

There are two known varieties of Bei Mu. There are the Chuan Bei Mu and Zhe Bei Mu. Chuan Mei Bu is largely grown in the province of Sichuan. It is the smaller variety of Bei Mu as it only grows as big as a pea. On the other hand, Zhe Bei Mu is usually seen in the province of Zhejiang. It is the bigger variety and is about the size of a cherry.
According to Chinese traditional medicine, both the varieties of Bei Mu are believed useful in treating different types of ailment associated with dry heat. Bei Mu is used in different types of coughs, more particularly chronic coughs and coughs associated with difficulty in breathing and blood sputum. It also helps in clearing lungs, dissolving phlegm, and controlling the disease altogether.
Bei Mu is a useful lymphatic decongestant that alleviates inflammation, nodules, fibrocystic breasts, goiter, and swelling of lymph glands. In old China, Bei Mu is used as a treatment for thyroid and lung cancers.
