Chinese Medicine from Huang Qi

Huang Qi

Huang Qi belongs to a large genus of herbs and shrubs that has about 2,000 species. It belongs to the legume family and is commonly grown in the Northern Hemisphere.
Huang Qi root is cylindrical in shape, while some have a divided, thick upper part measuring 30 to 90 centimeters in length and 1 to 3.5 centimeters in diameter. The external color of Huang Qi is pale brown with irregular wrinkles.
Huang Qi root is hard and firm; but once it breaks out, it is fibrous and starchy. Its bark is yellowish-white to wood pale yellow in color, while the center part has a blackish-brown shade.

In Chinese medicine, Huang Qi is used in relieving rheumatic conditions and helps in removing channel obstructions, while relieving pain associated to these conditions. The symptoms associated with rheumatism that it can address are rheumatic arthritis with lower back pain, headache due to cold, and painful cold legs. The Huang Qi herb is also used as treatment for patients who suffer from muscle weakness, fatigue, and numbness of the extremities due to deficiency of the Qi. Huang Qi also helps promote pus discharge and aid in tissue regeneration. It is also used on the patients with edema limbs. Patient who regularly suffer from shortness of breath with palpitation, as caused by heart-yang and kidney-yang deficiency, are benefited as well.
