Chinese Medicine from Jujube

Jujube

Jujube plant is commonly found in Southern Asia and both Southern and Central China. This plant can easily reach the height of 5 to 10 meters and grows with thorny branches.
Jujube leaves are shiny green that are 2 to 7 centimeters long with noticeable vein found at the base of the leaf. Its flower is small with 5 eye-catching yellow-green petals. The fruits are edible and taste just like an apple. Jujube tree grows on a wide range temperatures and rains, although this tree needs full sunlight and adequate supply of water during the fruit bearing season.

Both Chinese and Koreans use Jujube in preparing their respective traditional medicines. Both these races believe that it can effectively relieve stress. Jujube is used to increase the Qi and tones the center. It also nourishes the blood and quiets the spirit. It is used to treat spleen and stomach deficiencies due to poor appetite and loose stools. Jujube leaves contains a compound called ziziphin that holds back the ability to distinguish sweet taste. Its fruit is commonly used as decoctions that can provide soothing relief to sore throat. Jujube is not only used as medicine but can be used in different type of food as well.
