Chinese Medicine from Sulphur

Sulphur

Sulphur is a non-metal element and comes in a solid, yellow crystalline form. Polyhedron-shaped sulphurs are the ones most sought after by mineral collectors. Sulphur has a wide variety of commercial usage. It is used in making plant fertilizers, matches, gunpowder, fungicides, and insecticides. Sulphur, in nonscientific context, is also referred to as brimstone. When Sulphur is burned, it produces a blue flame that emits sulfur dioxide. This gas has an unusual, suffocating odor. Sulphur is soluble in carbon disulfide and in some non-polar organic solvents such as benzene and toluene. Sulfur cannot be dissolved in water.

Sulphur has been long used as a homeophatic remedy. It is believed that sulphur can help in the treatment of different types of diseases or ailments. It is used to treat skin disorders such as itching, sore, inflamed eruptions, and reddish, dirty looking skin. It is also used as a treatment for diphtheria. Diphtheria is a disease popular in the 19th century as a killer disease. Fortunately, sulphur was the leading anti-bacterial medicine during that time. It can be made into a formulation just like the aconite tuber-sulphur preparation. This preparation is commonly used today to help in the treatment of the withdrawal syndrome suffered by narcotic and alcoholic patients. Sulphur tranquilizes the nervous system and cures the abstinence symptoms.
